| I know this is extremely basic for the more advanced people...but this would have helped me out alot if I seen it. Any beginners who's building their first computer will be apprehensive about where to plug things in at on a p5w dh deluxe board. In my build I have an Antec 900 case with wires that need to be plugged in, I had a hard drive for my applications and OS and a hard drive just for storage (no raid configurations), 2 dvd burners an expansion card with 2 more usb ports and a video card and 2 extra case fans that I bought. In the Asus handbook...you'll see a map of the MB on page 2-4. Plug the power cord from the power supply in the slot marked : EATXPWR, your fan for the heatsink is plugged into : cpu_fan, I don't know what it's called but, you'll want to get the correct plug from the power supply and plug it into a slot marked : ATX 12V. Don't worry about having too many pins for that slot...powersupplies usually have it set up where you can separate some the extra pin holes on the plug. Just separate it. Your video card goes into the slot marked : PCIEX16_1, extra ubs ports card's (your expansion card that came with the motherboard) plug can go in a slot marked : usb56 , the one build into my case I plugged into : usb78. My main harddrive I plugged into: sata 1, my top dvd burner into: sata 3, my second dvd burner into sata 4, my storage hard drive I plugged into EZ Raid 1 slot. I've got 2 extra fans in my case. I plugged into CHA _fan2 and CHA_fan1. I also have a IE1394 build into my case and I plugged that into IE1934_1 slot. This board comes with an adapter so you can make your start, reset switches from your case into one plug. It's white. I did that and plugged it into the slot marked: panel. The audio wire that came with my case...I plugged into the slot marked :AAFP. I used the plug marked "hd audio". The fans that come with the case I plugged into one another and plugged them directly into my powersupply. There may be another way to plug things in....but this worked for me. This may seem like a silly post....but I had no clue as to where things should have been plugged in at, even after reading the manual. For example...I just had two hard drives and they wasn't configured into a Raid. I seen ez raid 1, ez raid 2, sata raid 1 and sata 1,3, and 4. Throw in some sata dvd burners and thats very confusing if you've never done it before and your afraid of doing any damage....so maybe this might help someone. Even if it's silly...at least I'm trying to be helpful to the other extremely new beginners now. | Firstly, no post like this is silly. Everyone here is at a different level, there is no need to be embarrassed or anything else. Secondly, this is a rather nice nifty guide, although it could be much more apprehensive with photos, even enough for a guide to enter in the Newegg competition for a 50-dollar gift card. So you can make a more detailed version if you'd like with photos, since you have the whole thing built, though, you'd have to unplug everything and start the rebuild again. Good job figuring it out, by the way. | ||||||||||||||

| Nice guide. Should be extremely helpful for those just starting out, getting those worries that we all did doing our first builds. I'm glad you took the time to write it, and as ST!X said, it's a far cry from being a 'silly post'. We're all here to help people out, and that's exactly what you did. | Thanks guys. I'll get pictures up this week to go with it. I guess it helps to have a visual as well as the map of the MB in the manual.
