| Hi Gents: I am just visiting the Board and it's appearance.. and checking to see if my I.D./Handle and Password works.. So-Far-So-Good.. The Board is looking pretty good from this end.. I'm the guy that got beat-up and Hit with the Trojan and Virus back about a month or so ago.. I took advice and installed the Panda AV+F 2008 application.. I'm recovering from this attack.. It's getting better everyday.. I think.. I have some questions to ask to see if I might be able to get my LAN to identify the Machines and Operating systems and get the configurations correct from machine-to-machine.. I will open a topic a post the issues as accurately as I can.. ![]() Some issues may have always been there but other issues seem to be more sensitive now that I'm recovering from the Trojan and Virus.. | Modder-ator | Welcome back Bill! :wavey: Sometimes the best remedy for a serious virus/trojan infection is a complete reformat and reinstall of Windows. Just something to consider. Glad you are liking the new layout, Rich Caporali (Capper) the site owner is responsible for putting all of these changes into effect and definitely deserves mad props for doing so much work! |

| Functional Alcoholic | I am going to have to agree with blake on this one. Windows never seems to run "Just Right" after a serious infection. Some computer viruses are like herpes, just because your not having a breakout doesn't mean it's not still there. AV software is like herpes medication, it doesn't cure it, but it keeps it from flaring up real bad. |

| Level 2 College Student | the only problem with these new boards is that I have to redo my sig. This is a very nice application of white. I really don't like looking at many white websites but somehow this really comes together nicely :) note: i didn't look for a "new color scheme" thread so I just posted my thoughts on this one. As for that herpes analogy, that's probably the best way you could possibly describe it. Just /reinstall. I know its a bitch, but it has to be done :( |

Hi gvblake22: I hear you loud-and-clear.. It's so easy to stick the Windows Disk into the DVD transport and "Wipe" that "C" Drive.. Well.. BUT.. It's getting close to several years now that I have gathered that data and files and all.. But the hard part of that is (For me anyway) to get that information back to where it is today.. Is there something I'm missing.. in the process of Formatting? and starting over again? I used to do it with the '98SE desks and before XP.. Quite a few times over the years and when I only had '98SE.. as the Operating System.. If I remember.. when I did that it usually took me and sometimes several months to get the desk back to where it was when I pulled the plug on the BAD Build.. I'm not sure if I could re-format the '98SE Desks I use now in my operation.. ( I know back then.. I wanted to do some kind of a "GHOST" of the install.. BUT I never did).. as the '98SE Desks have all the latest versions of updates (to when Microsoft stopped supporting '98SE) that I don't think are available for downloading anymore.. I also have a third party .NET Framework application installed on it.. including some other cross platform utilities that I have long forgotten.. I only know that all that stuff improved the interaction of the the old Audio Hardware I use with those '98SE Desks.. It might be.. and does anyone know if a Third Party '98SE desk is available for download anywhere ???? with lots of "Cross Platform" utilities that were not available with the real '98SE DESK..?? Cause the present '98SE Desk I use with this set-up works very well with the currently installed PRE XP Desk that I need to have-and-operate with the set-up I have.. Sorry.. I repeat some of my thoughts in this paragraph. You know.. there are plenty of Computer Shops out that that thrive on guys coming in their doors with computers that don't work right for what they're used for.. They tell you what they can do for your set-up and when you get it back it works worse than when you took it in to them.. Well. for audio work.. and if you tell them you use your set-up for audio work, they give you the "Bum's Rush" Out Their Door.. I've got too many Hard Luck Stories to do that anymore.. Anyway, this LAN issue has become quite a challenge for me.. I believe, it might be a Firewall issue, that's causing it to work the way it does.. Who knows?? All it needs to do is behave properly when I am in the "Creative Mode".. I shouldn't have to worry about whether the LAN is going to work when I'm importing-or-exporting tracks between 18 hard drives in three Mainframes.. to a Multi-Track Editor.. It needs to work between three Mainframes that has three XP Desks and two '98SE desks.. The five desks don't work all the time.. but they should work and communicate when they are launched and "Open-to-the-Network".. in whatever combination.. What I'd really like to attempt is.. to reduce the network to Two Mainframes with three Desks.. Two XP Desks and ONE '98SE Desk.. Anyway, I'll try to prepare a thread explaining the set-up I have or like to present to the LAN.. As the challenge.. Bill.. CPU:1.2 ghz. Board:ASUS CUSL2c 815 chip set Memory:512 meg. | Functional Alcoholic | Your confusing me with your terminology. By desk I assume you mean computers and your saying desk as in short for desktop. Your using the term Mainframes, by this do you actually mean servers? And one other thing it's the end of 2007, ditch 98 already. It was never that good at networking anyways. If you have older computers that can't run XP, you could still use win2k, it will run on 128mb of ram, and runs real well with 256mb. I think you need to look at some changes to make your life easier. If you have had your current install of XP for a couple of years already then your long over due for a reformat. You can back your files up on a DVD or an external HD. |

| Hi Gents: I'm back again and replying to your replies.. Thank you for your thoughts and replies on this thread.. You guys are way "Smarter" and Clever for me.. That's why I'm over here and snooping around.. I hang around audio Boards and gather all the ideas I can.. But You are so right.. I'm just in a recovering condition with this attack.. I've got "Tracker's BLOCK".. BIG Time.. I know if I get in the creative mode that I'll have to stop and try to FIX something that doesn't work right just when I want to push the "Record" button.. It seems like I go up the ladder two wrongs and slip back two wrongs.. Then I slip back one wrong and then go up two wrongs.. at times.. When I'm searching for consistency and repeatability, in a process It usually never happens.. I find I have to go and FIX something.. When I scanned these drives for viruses and malware I found it on drives that I never expected to find it.. I don't know how it got there.. but it did.. It was so discouraging to find it.. Bill.. | Sorry Guys: My terminology Hurts.. Don't expect it to come from me and my poor knowledge of computers.. When I say DESKS.. I mean that when I boot my computer it installs the operating system that is on the drive I configure on the BIOS at BOOT Time.. That's on the Dual Boot computers.. The Host computer on the LAN I have is considered the one that I show on the bottom of the thread that I reply on.. here.. That's the P-111 1.2ghz. computer that I generally go on the Internet, with.. I download files, check my mail and "EDIT" tracks with it when I'm not in the studio.. making tracks and music.. I need to pay attention to what I post.. when I'm on this Board.. Thanks for setting me straight.. lol.. hehehe.. No Bluenose language around here.. Bill.. [EDIT] I'm the biggest Pack Rat in these parts.. Lets say I have 750 gigabytes of storage space on three Frames/Computer boxes.. After 3-5 years of creating tracks that have 50 megs of data per track .. These tracks may be approaching 50%.. That's a lot of files.. Now.. The Boot drives don't have anything on them except applications/programs/utilities and the control that makes the music files.. I should be able to "WIPE" the BOOT Drives and keep the audio files IN-TACT".. Well.. in theory.. BUT.. Who knows.. ??? You see.. I've never tempted Fate.. CPU:1.2 ghz.
