I don't consider it a take on until they offer books, which is what still what amazon is mainly used for, unless I am wrong.

Amazon is now used for everything.... a sort of ebay without the auction type... people and stores can list stuff they have for sale and list their price... amazon displays the items and people generally go for the lowest price. This is pretty much where Newegg is going but I think they will mostly start with PC hardware and software to start with

They've long since outgrown their books-only niche. I've bought everything from jerseys to speakers, and, most recently, a DSLR camera through Amazon.

The reason NeweggMall is being equated to Amazon is that, like the latter, NeweggMall will serve as a portal for other retailers to offer their wares. For example, my DSLR actually came from BeachCamera, but I went through Amazon to make the purchase rather than directly on BC's website.

I love newegg, but like I said, they aren't true competition to amazon until they offer books. It is just too easy to buy it all from amazon and get the free shipping.
