very nice... too bad you couldn't place the disc drive where the tape loader goes...

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Yeah, I was originally going to do that, but I ran out of room

I could possibly do it in the future if i mount the HD further back and get a slimline CD-ROM drive though...

EDIT: It's running Ubuntu 6.10

EDIT 2:

To get the back plate cut out, i just heated up a butter knife on my stove and melted the plastic away :)

Most of the stuff, except the mobo is held in place with velco strips (note the fan over the PSU). The mobo just stays in place on its own, so no mounting was needed.

To get the VCR's stock power button working, I just followed the traces on the PCB to where they went on wires, and just cut and splice a power button header to the proper wires.

Future plans could possible include getting a VFD controller for its display(very unlikely) or getting a cheap USB keyboard with multimedia buttons, ripping it apart and wiring it up to the play/pause/rewind/fastfoward buttons on the VCR (very likely)

thx yuri, still playing with it some

Lead, why not find a VCR at a garage sale for $5 or something that has a tape load offset to one side (ie, tape load door is to the right)... I have a working one that my daughter uses that is offset... otherwise I would send that your way.

Well, That may not work do to the fact that most VCRs now are very small, and I have a rather large MATX mobo. I had to mount the PSU sideways get everything to fit, and even then it's still a cramped fit in the PSU area. I've already tried to mount the HD over there, and it just wasn't gonna work
I think just getting a slimline laptop CD-ROM drive will be the best choice when I get some money..

EDIT1:

PS, you guys should have a mod of the week contest :-P

Nice job on the VCR mod, quite original. Besides the computer being in apparent disrepair, it looks pretty good!

HAHAHA, exactly. And at the pace I am finishing my mods, it should be more like mod of the decade!
