| Would using Brasso on lapped CPUs and heatsinks and the like ruin anything? Any negative effects? I used it on my E4300 (lapped) and an old stock Intel cooler and got a really nice reflective finish, but will it hurt temps at all? ![]() Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 | DFI Blood Iron P35-T2RL | 2GB G.Skill 800MHz | EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 320MB | Silverstone Decathlon 650W | Western Digital 250GB SATA II | ||||||||||||||

| I'm Diggin it!
| I can't imagine it would if you cleaned the mating surfaces after you were done. | You can probably find a more abrasive polish then Brasso, but as long as you cleaned the surface up really well and didn't leave any residue behind it shouldn't hurt anything. | ||||||||||||||

| Functional Alcoholic
| I wouldn't do it. Brasso is very messy, I would be afraid of it getting somewhere and causing a problem. You would have to be very very careful and only use small amounts at a time. I wouldn't use it on the CPU, should be OK on the Heatsink. | ||||||||||||||

| it is good for looks but how often will you be taking the heatsink off to show it off? You are better off using alcohol to clean it off and lapping it as needed but brasso is more for a finish, not for smoothness ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! | Ok, thanks guys. I did clean the surface off with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol afterwards, so it should be fine. Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 | DFI Blood Iron P35-T2RL | 2GB G.Skill 800MHz | EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 320MB | Silverstone Decathlon 650W | Western Digital 250GB SATA II | ||||||||||||||

| Modder-ator
| Doesn't seem worth it, would just end up adding a bunch of extra, unneeded oils and residue that would probably inhibit cooling performance. Just lap the bottom if you are worried about it, polishing it really won't improve the actual contact surface any... | ||||||||||||||
