Default PA System (worklog)

Recently I’ve got bored of my PC I couldn’t honestly think of anything new and exciting to do with it. Many people talk about large sound systems at around 500W. Personally I don’t think that 500W is much for a 5.1 sound system. The 500w is split between the 6 speakers giving only 82W per speaker. My idea is to build a system that seriously kicks ass. I am going to build a PA system. At the moment I don’t know how big it’s going to be it all depends on cash. I will be building the cabs for all of my speakers to cut down on cost and make things more interesting. The first driver I have ordered is a 150W tweeter. You may think this isn’t much and goes against my idea of a killer system but the high range speakers don’t need to be very powerful. Moving down to the bass bins I it be kicking out a huge 1000W.

Below is an image of the first tweeter. On Friday I will be ordering three more of these and then be building cabs for them.

Blooms,
I am in the process of building my own subwoofer. I must say its a fun process! I am only building a 10" sub to start with but if this works out pretty well I may be building a couple more.
A great program to use is
SketchUp Home
This will save you alot of time and you can screw around with dimensions etc.

p.s. get the free one no need for the pro version.

I am building a ported enclosure. The only problem I am having right now is how long to make the port. Right now I have my amp and driver in a crap box and it sounds ok, my new box is almost complete just gotta cut circles and an amp hole. There is a great DIY speaker section at avs forums. They are very helpful, they can get you on the right track!
