Default I know it is a little thing...but it is a start! (chipset cooling mod)

You know.....that Northbridge heatsink on the DS3 gets a little too hot for my comfort. So I was wandering around Comp-USA this afternoon and I saw this Coolermaster Blue Ice chipset heatsink and fan. The heatsink is painted alluminum that I'm sure I can use somewhere else. The fan is a 40mm Blue LED fan rated at 4500rpm and 4.5cfm and 22db. I can't hear it and it looks pretty cool, even if I did have to mount it diagonally to get the screws in. I checked and it is running around 4800RPM and it is perfectly silent.

Take a look.

AAAHHHH, I see. So you just took the fan from the Cooler Master HS/F and put it on the Gigabyte passive NB heatsink? Nifty, looks like it works great, nicely done! :thumb:

Yeah it is working nicely. I'm not sure there the motherboard temperature sensor is for the DS3 but it has dropped that temp by 2c.

Cool. Idle temps probably won't really change, but I bet if you can find a way to heat that NB chip up, your load temps will be much less with the active cooling on that large heatsink.

I would imagine that with my 920 running at 4ghz like it is, the northbridge probably isn't even breaking a sweat. Since this MB is made for much higher FSB speeds, I probably have it as hot as it will get for now. That being said, it was always really hot to the touch.
