I think you should turn it into spinners for your case.

Also, I don't see the point since I never see my hard disk.

Don't expect it to work when your done. I have seen a couple of guys try it, and the HD didn't work after they cracked it open.

its because of the dust apparently you've got to put it in a baggie real quick while you mod the lid. The dust gets stuck between the needle and the platter. Oh well its only like 6GB just an experiment.

Floppy drive window? lmao

As Hitman said, the likelyhood of your drive dying after such a mod is quite high. but I guess if it is one that you don't care about then go for it! I've heard of people that turned on all the hot water in their bathroom and let it run for like 20 - 30 minutes to get the room full of water vapor, then shut off the water and let the steam settle and the get the room back to regular temperature (or else the HDD would get water vapor condensing on it, and I'm sure you can figure out why that isn't good). The goal there is to try and create a sort of "clean room" where dust and static electricity is (hopefully) eliminated by the condensing water vapor in the room. then you take your HDD in there and perform the operation. Once the cover has been removed, you could put the drive in a brand new ziplock bag until you are done creating the window on the top panel. Then repeat the clean room procedure to install the new cover back onto the drive.

I've also seen someone make a little enclosure with the drive inside it and you reach into it with rubber gloves attached to the side of the enclosure like a biohazard testing facility.

Check out more pictures and information HERE...
