| Hey guys, I need a new laptop for work and I have about $800 to spend. It will be used mostly for e-mail, web, loads of excel work, pdf's, estimates and other accounting tomfoolery on quickbooks, viewing pictures and lots of rough video cuts of commercials. Good dvd playback would be a bonus as well. I'm not too worried about it being light weight or compact really. Does anyone have any suggestions? |

| The Samsung R60+ Core 2 Duo T5450 is a really good value for money laptop. I order 1 yesterday and received it earlier. Unfortunately its not mine to keep. I ordered it on behalf of my mum. I have to say, its a great looking little laptop with decent spec. Its got a Core2 Duo @ 1.66ghz, 2GB of RAM and a 200GB harddrive. All that for under £450 shipped. I am sure it will be just about in budget when converting £ to $ coz everything is a bit cheaper over their. Heres a link to a UK site for a closer look. | Any thoughts on a decent manufacturer, can't see me getting another one out of my boss for another 12 years, I still use an abacus, quill and typewriter in the office. Quote:

| We take both criticism and positive comments very positively | The Dell notebooks are really nice. I currently have an ASUS I'm selling (a little out of your price range), but I really like their offerings a lot. A lot of custom notebook builders use ASUS chassis. | I would suggest checking out HP. While Dell is nice, I have found throughout my research that they tend to overprice their notebooks moreso than HP. HP also offers more lucractive deals such as 30% off coupons and $300 off discounts more often and with greater frequency than Dell. My advice? Check out the HP dv6700t series laptop. It's a 15.4" laptop with the new Intel Penryn processors in them. You can get a brand new HP laptop with a 15.4" screen and a 2.0GHz processor for around $700 bucks. Not too shabby, and it will be a sweet little performer and more with what you need to use it for. =) HP Pavilion dv6700t |
