Default laptop problem

I am new to this forum and would appreciate someone's help with this problem. Soon as i turn my laptop on it loads up to the windows xp screen, then the blue screen (i believe error screen) pops up but doesn't stay on for me to read it. Then the laptop restarts. I have tryed pressing f10 to format version of windows xp, but the same blue screen problem happens, i also can't acess any of the safe modes or the last known good configuration option.
please please help thanx

How about a little helpful info like the make and model of the laptop?

When trying to boot into Safe Mode are you simply tapping F8 when the machine starts?

That's usually caused by a bad sector having been written to the hard drive (either by corrupt files or a virus), or the RAM is failing and causing bad data to be written to the hard drive.
Hopefully you have a recovery CD, and can access the DOS based console from the CD. Running chkdsk /r will scan your Windows installation and attempt to fix the bad sectors, most of the time it works.
Another thing to run is Memtest86, found here.
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool
You can either make a bootable CD, Floppy or USB Key out of it, whichever you prefer. I usually go with the Floppy version as it's less of a hassle then firing up a ISO burning program and some motherboards don't support booting from a USB Key. Either one you choose, go into the BIOS and set the Boot Options to load from the CD/Floppy/USB instead of the hard drive. Memtest will load and just follow the directions to test your memory (it takes some time). If any errors are found, the RAM is bad and needs to be replaced.

You can read more about the error here:

The technical information at the bottom is almost a requirement in order to discern what is wrong with your laptop. It should look something similar to this:

*** STOP: 0x00000096 (0x00000004, 0x805461F0, 0xB20000000, 0x00070F0F)

This was (and still is) a BSOD I keep getting on my main machine. Providing us this technical information will help in figuring out your problem.

If you can't write down the information fast enough because your laptop reboots after you get the BSOD, in WindowsXP try to get into Safe mode by rapidly pressing your F8 key. Once you're in Safe Mode, right click My Computer, select Properties, and click the Advanced tab. Go to Startup and Recovery and click the Settings button. Under System Failure, uncheck the option labeled Automatically Restart.

Reboot your computer, and the next time your notebook BSOD's, write down any information you can, ensuring you write everything down correctly.

Good luck!
