Default Summer Project Ideas

Alright, my parents are really anal about me doing something during the summer... they are worried about me just sitting on my ass in front of my computer all summer... which is a valid concern I guess...

So, they gave me a list of summer camps I could do. None are really to my interest, I kinda like freelancin' it if ya know what I mean.

I thought it would be awesome if I could do some summer project computer related, like building a custom case, doing a mod, etc. that would take up most of my free time so my parents will get off my back.

I understand things cost money, but I'd like a project that doesn't take a big chunk out of my pocket. Like $300 max for all included costs (which is not that much of you consider it supposed to take like 2 months, 8 hours or so a day).

What are some computer-related projects that are fun, time consuming, and low-costing? I'm not sure there is such a thing, but oh well, it's open to discussion.

Taking up golf? Lol, just kidding. (but only because you want computer related ideas.)

Seriously though.... for that kind of money it'd be pretty easy to do something crazy to a case... add windows, lights, powder coat it even... can't think of any specific ideas for that though.

I guess I could expand it to other things as well. I always wanted to take up bass guitar, but being left handed and having this condition called Palmar Hyperhidrosis makes it hard to play instruments (let alone building computers; geez! Always have some rubber gloves around!) let me tell ya!

I'm open to ideas.

Why don't you do a photojournal of your summer....get outside and take pictures of something different each day. You have the ocean, the aquarium, all kinds of scenic and interesting things to take pictures of

That's actually a pretty good idea, Rich. The problem is getting places. Most photogenic places requires some driving to get there, and I can't drive. My parents can't drive me either, they are working (both of them). Not sure how interesting the journal would be if I only took pics around PG.

Man, you have a bike, don't you!!! those were just ideas of local things.......maybe one day focus on bugs, the next plants, the next trees....or one day focus on kids playing, or families.....just spend each day focusing on one thing for an entire summer....i think it would be popular, and I think your parents would appreciate your creativity.

It would also give you a lot of practice taking pictures.

I think if you do it well and leave on a journey with your cam you could get something interesting.

Awesome, I'll pitch the idea to my parents and see if they spring for it.

I don't know. I think it would be pretty cool if you made a photo journal. Like go to X place, take picture while going there. You could even make a mini-map of where you went and your trajectory. You have photo skills, so it can pass as art, whereas if I did that someone would think I'm extremely bored.

For added geekness, your trajectory on the map would draw something. :P

I'm not saying its a bad idea (I actually really like it). Maybe put the money towards a new lens... hmm, lots of ideas now... :P
