Default RMA with OCZ

WEll one of my four sticks of OCZ PC-6400 died on me so now I'm down to 3 sticks and 3gb of RAM. I initiated the RMA process and so far nothing to special has happened. They acknowledged the problem and I had to "comment" back my address and the info on the sticks for them to send me RMA instructions..

Frankly I am sick of computer parts dieing on me, in the last 3 months the following parts have died on me: Asus P5W DH(after a solid year of use), Gigabyte P35C DS3R. A Raptor 36, and now the 1 stick of memory and oh my nephew spilled a cup of water on my Microsoft Ergonomic 4000 series keyboard. But the keyboard is ok because that was an excuse to by a nice new Logitech wireless keyboard.....

Just be glad you did not buy Geil Ram. That stuff simply will fail. I had to RMA 3 times with them on different sticks ... twice on one set.

3rd failure I just tossed it.

Oh ... and they were running spec and not overclocked.

Suck to hear about it Ranger. Don't be too hard on your hardware, there's so much volts they can take. :P

Argh, talk about bad luck. :S How was the RMA experience?

If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. One by one, and two by two, I have ammo, what about you?

if this is happening with all different parts then it may be time to get a new and higher rated PSU and a better surge protector for the power (minimum 2000 joules).

Thanks HL and Corsair!

No My PSU is the Silverstone Olympia 650, well capable of powering this system. I need to be more careful with my hardware and not push it so hard. My surge Protector guarantees to cover a million dollars of equipment...

Polobunny - The RMA experience with Geil:

They took a week after getting my RMA to test and affirm it was broken.
They took another week to return my Item with a New replacement.

Same for all 3 RMA's with them.

Their service was a 6/10 ... but the issue is that they sold a bad product and they were aware of it. Cost me far too much it time and hassle ... I would not buy from them again unless they develop a better product and have seasoned proof of such.

Corsair, Crucial, OCZ, Gskill, patriot and even A-Data are superior in every way. [I have used or currently have all of these in their top performance series.] GEiL rate below Kingston by a good measure.

Cost of ram by the last option to RMA ... well it was in the $25 per gig range ... so I opted to just get Ram that did not waste my time anymore. [Theres was $305 for 2GB when I bought it at market peak]

That's why I like getting mushkin ram... even though I've had a bad set, the support forum they have there is top notch, and they're really helpful (if you ask, they'll probably tell you what to set every ram related option in your bios to... EVERY option, lol.)

Then again, I've never had bad kingston ram either... mmm.

Tell ya what, I set my dad up with some Mushkin DDR2-800 4-5-4-11 for dirt cheap and it OCs decently... AND I have Mushkin XP PC6400 D9 fatbody that were like the allmighty ram sticks but that computer is down now and will be for a few months, I don't have it in my possession.. But those sticks took a beating and are still kicking after like 3 years.

one problem... Muskin ram does not play well with Gigabyte boards... there is not a single Mushkin mention in the memory compatibility list for this EP35-DS3P (or any of the P35-DS boards)

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Hmm, I've been running 4x1gb of mushkin em2-6400 ram (5-5-5-12) on my gigabyte p965 s3 without any trouble... even with a bit of an overclock.

And I know this isn't an official list as put out by the mobo, but they have a pretty good list of what has worked for people, as far as what memory configuration and what board, located at Mushkin Support Forums :: View topic - Mushkin Ram and Motherboard Compatibility List (Unofficial).

They list several p35 ds series mobos as working, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's some Mushkin ram out there that would work.
