Default NewEgg....no more.

I've been a NewEgg fanboi for quite some time now. My first purchases on record dating back to 2003. I've spent thousands with this place. However, NewEgg is starting to get too big for their britches.

My chief complaint today is that NewEgg is selling downloadable software for MORE money than the shipping versions.

Acronis True Image 11 Retail - $25.49 + Free shipping = $25.49.

Acronis True Image 11 Download - $44.99!!

I can see no friggin difference in the software to justify almost double the expense.

TurboTax Fed & State 2007 retail - $39.79 + Free Shipping = $39.79

Same program, as a download - $44.99!!

There's only a couple of advantages for the download.

Limited waiting time from purchase to use.

Better for the environment. No transporting a box of CD's, no packaging material to throw away and it SHOULD be cheaper due to these points.

NewEgg is not only running a pricing structure to take advantage of popular items, now they are also price gouging for convenience. Time for me to start directing my business to another couple of sites. ClubIT comes to mind. NewEgg, I never thought I'd say it, and your customer service is still pretty good, but this is one customer who has to move on. The reputation you've built among the enthusiasts is now being tarnished. Whoever you've hired recently to conduct your financial marketing and pricing scheme is screwing you out of customers right and left. And dedicated ones like me who constantly link to your site. No more. I'll regulate NewEgg as a recommended Etailer to the same category as my other, lesser preferred sites. ClubIT will be my go-to company now. Hope your profit margin is worth it.

It seems like you have valid points, but have you contacted customer service to ask them why? Maybe the companies are requiring the higher prices for the downloads?

As a leading portal for downloading software, NewEgg would have considerable say-so over pricing I would imagine. I've emailed NewEgg, but received no response. That's why I posted it here. So the guys who run the website can figure it out if they desire.

I've actually become much less enamored with Newegg than I used to be......Theres lots of grumbling about price gouging, and my own experiences lately are not what they were 4-6 months ago.

I posted on NewEgg's forums. I doubt it'll garner much attention outside of the NewEgg forum fanboi's.

ZZF is a very good place for computer parts, and they offer FREE shipping on, I believe all items.

For instance I just ordered a Gigabyte EP35C-DS3R and some DDR3 from Newegg, but NE did not have the E8400 in stock, so I went to ZZF and sure enough they had it in stock.

Their prices are decent, but their product selection just doesn't compare to Newegg. I always price compare when I am shopping for computer parts, but I usually end up at newegg simply because they have what I am looking for in stock at a decent price. I also find their website the easiest to navigate. ZZF is a PITA to navigate, and their search tool is a nightmare.

Agreed. Newegg has got all other sites beat on usability and selection. There are lots of other sites that sell items for about the same (or often cheaper), but they never have the selection Newegg is able to put up and navigating their sites is never as easy.

I also agree that Newegg is notorious for price gouging on new items, but wouldn't you do the same if you could get away with it? It sucks but it's the simple laws of supply and demand at its finest: prices will rise until demand drops, in which case prices will fall to generate more demand. Newegg's prices are somewhat volatile upon new product launches, but as long as people continue to fork over the cash for overpriced items, Newegg will continue to make more money.
