Default EVGA RMA

For the 3rd time in 2 years my EVGA video card has gone bad. It all started with a 7800GT that had discoloration and distortion. EVGA stepped that card up to a 7900GT (May 06) that card lasted for almost a year before it started to have similar problems (May 07). EVGA quickly RMA'd that card, and replaced it in less then 2 weeks. Now my third EVGA 7 series card is going out. When entering games, or while playing my screen will just go gray. Sometimes I can recover from it, but sometimes I have to reboot. So I contacted EVGA once again to RMA this card. They responded with in 4 days and approved my RMA. I will be putting the video card in the mail today, and I will report back how long it takes to get my card back.

So far my experience with EVGA is that they have excellent customer support, and warranty service. My concern is that every card I have gotten has gone bad. I am not sure if this is an issue with 7 series cards or with EGVA.

Wow, that's terrible luck man! Are you checking the heatsink/fans for dust buildup?

I keep my whole system very clean. I clean it out at least every 2 weeks. None of my cards have ever overheated. I really don't have any idea what the problem is. The only common denominator is that all 3 cards have been installed in the same motherboard, but I don't think thats the issue.

the 1 time i contacted EVGA about my old 6800GS being broken, they asked me to mail it into them to do a test. Returned saying no issues, and didn't charge me for the testing service either. Now a quick google run shows that the factory OC version of the 7900 has a pretty high failure rate, could be that issue.

If EVGAs customer service wasn't so good, I would be sending up red flags to all the forums I frequent to stay away from EVGA. They havn't done me wrong other then sending me cards that fail, but they keep replacing them.

It's good to hear that EVGA actually is good, on some occasions.
I've heard otherwise elsewhere, but I trust you Hitman.

How is the 7900GT in COD4?
Maybe though, it's time to step up to an 8800?

I had a similar issue with BFG cards on my AthlonXP system some years back (Asus A7N8X board, nvidia chipset)... this system ate up 2 or 3 cards (all Ti4200) in the course of 1 year... at one point they upgraded me to a FX5200Ultra and that card worked perfectly (and still is to this day 3 years later). Of course I used that card in another system once I got my ATi 9600XT which is still going strong to this day.

So it may be this series of cards in this one system, maybe pay a few dollars to get stepped up to a 8600GT or something a bit better and newer????

Thanks HL and Corsair!

It's fine in COD4. I have other priorities besides a new video card right now. I just need a video card that works. The 7900gt works just fine for all the games I play.

My card first started doing that when I installed COD4, but then it spread to other games including Quake 3.
