Default XDrive goes free

The web-based hard drive service formerly known as XDrive has gone free because AOL bought them. So you can get your own free, 5GB (5120MB, yes five real gigs) hard drive for storage. It used to be 5GB trial that expired. These don't.

So far, AOL has offered me two useful things: AIM and XDrive.

Sweet linkage bro. Sucks you gotta make an AOL email, but I can live with that for the versatility of 5Gb online to share files with.

If you have AIM, it works without a signup. Just use your AIM username and password. And, guess what? You get 5.0GB of space as defined by WINDOWS. Five. Real. Gigabytes. Repeat: No 1 billion bytes per gigabyte crap. Five genuine gigs. So Xdrive's desktop app shows "5.12GB" but Windows shows "5.0GB" YAY! They were actually advertising it on Facebook, yes there are useful things on sites like that :) There are no ads that I can see, either. Not even in the web-based version. But then again, I use Firefox 2.0 with Remove It Permanently so I never see ads.
