Default USB wireless transceiver needed

I got the Microsoft Optical Desktop Elite for Bluetooth for Christmas to use with my dual Xeon media center PC. Things happened with my dad, I was unable to get my system going - altho it was folding.

The other day I found some time on my hands and was going to start working on it - getting it ready to reformat the drive, reinstall programs, etc. As I was bending to pull it out, I snapped the USB wireless transceiver.

I called MS support, they've already sent me a new keyboard set, but I don't want to waste mine, so I want to buy a transceiver so that I can give the set to my daughter. From what I understand it uses USB 2.0 technology 2.4 GHz.

Does anyone have any ideas if a universal will work with this keyboard / mouse?

Thanks

To answer your question, yes. You should be able to use another BT dongle. Just make sure to keep the package and receipt just in case there is an issue. I have seen them around here for around $20.

I have that same exact KB and Mouse. I really like it. What I don't like is it only works with Windows XP, and its not supported in the bios. You have to have usb or PS/2 keyboard handy if you have to go into the bios. If your using an OS other than XP good luck getting it to work.

How did you get M$ to replace it? The KB scroll on mine stopped working and I 'd like to get it replaced.

Replacement was awesome - one of the best experiences ever. I did the chat, which was unnecessary. They had me call their replacement parts support - 800-360-7561, the guy took my info, then I gave him a CC for shipping (cost me $10) plus an email addy. He told me it wouldn't be available till 11/22 (backorder), but when it came a few days later, I was pretty surprised.

You may need to do the chat if you can't use an 800 number, at least to see what number you need to call.

Haven't really used the keyboard, but when i started setting it up, it looked pretty neat. I'll have to remember that about the bios, thanks
