Default Thecus N5200BR NAS Review

Click the image to open in full size.
Never heard of Thecus? Don't feel bad, neither had we until they contacted us and asked us to try out one of their new products. After a little digging, we uncovered that Thecus is in the storage business, offering a variety of enterprise and professional storage solutions covering every storage situation and user type.

Storage freaks rejoice! Even with 1TB hard drives, 32GB USB thumb drives, and external HDD enclosures, the true storage junkie is always looking for a simpler, better, and more secure way of stashing their collection of por, er, movies, music, pictures, and important files. Featuring five hot swappable SATAII drive bays in RAID 0,1,5, 6,and 10, as well as JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks), and over 3TB of storage space, the N5200 NAS (Network Attached Storage) box trumps standard storage devices like those mentioned above in that you can access it from any point on your network, instead of attaching it to one device at a time.

They have been around for awhile, they are mostly used in Large Business and Corporate networks.

RAID 6 - Is similar to RAID 5 except it provides fault tolerance from two drive failures, instead of only one with RAID 5.

RAID 10 - is a nested RAID Array, its actually RAID 1 + 0 a stripe across a number of mirrored sets. similar to RAID 0 + 1 which is a mirrored configuration of two striped sets.

Man, that really makes me want to pick up a NAS-box. I'd love something killer like that but it's a few fathoms out of my price range.

This would be perfect for work too, as they're needing a new backup solution, and this would be perfect. If they would just buy any of the stuff I told them we needed...
