Default ROUTER NEEDED?

i have 2 10/100 networking adapters, can i hook one up to my modem, and another computer up to the other one and use my computer as a router?



Intel Celeron CPU 2.8GHz
MS-6714 Mainboard
Intel 845G Chipset
Intel Integrated 82845G Graphics
40GB UltraDMA Hard Drive
Sony DVD/CD RW
Steady-state 200 watts PSU

You want to share an internet connection between the two? This is easy in XP!

Windows XP Internet Connection Sharing


Or do you intend to do something else?

ya but im wonder if i need a router (have one but it like burned out) or if i can hook the internet into me one 10/100 network adapter, and attach the other computer to the other 10/100 network adapter and have simultanious internet access?

You may need a special cross over Ethernet cable, which are cheap enough, but if NICs are fairly new/advanced, they should automatically switch to the correct mode with a normal cable..

At the price of a SOHO router, I find connection sharing to be a PITA...

yeah cost of routers nowadays are cheap enough, might as well go that route since they're maybe $5 more than a NIC cards itself for a basic one

Network interface card = Ethernet card
