Default The Razer Tarantula Gaming Keyboard Review

Adding to a list that already includes names like Diamondback, Krate, Copperhead, and Death Adder....Razer, the king of creepy names, introduces yet another gaming peripheral that promises to catch the eye, if not the heart of the diehard gamer. Today, HL takes a close look at Razer's Tarantula Gaming Keyboard.

While mice tend to get all the publicity when it comes to gaming hardware, a good keyboard can make a huge difference in the overall performance and enjoyment of your gaming experience. Over the past two years I've played with a wide range of keyboards, from the $14 specials typically found at CompUSA and Best Buy, to the high end gaming alternatives found at Newegg or Fry's. During that time, I've actually found one keyboard that held up through the abuse I dish out when getting my ass kicked at CS:S or Far Cry. Though not the sexiest keyboard around, nor the most comfortable, my Saitek Eclipse has never let me down, and other than some worn off key faces and the annoying backlighting used, the Eclipse has proven to be a dependable keyboard.

Although I like a lot of the features of the keyboard the fact that it's not conducive for everyday use would turn me off on it.

These gaming keyboards are always cool but are nothing more than a novelty. I'm happy with my Microsoft keyboard.

My cheap Acer keyboard does the thing. If only it was backlit, it would be perfect. I hate most gaming keyboards because they have strange keys layouts. Even my little Acer has something weird, they added shutdown/standby/wakeup keys. In itself someone might find them useful, but for anyone that grew used with a standard it's a pain as you'll find yourself pressing keys that you shouldn't press, AKA shutdown.
Obviously it took less than 2 seconds for me to disable those from inside Windows, but now they're just as useless as a pair of Oakley sunglasses for someone blind... :P
