Default Problem: SATA installed, but not seen

I recieved my new SATA drive (Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 250GB), and now that I have it, I'm not exactly sure how to install it properly.

Actually, it's not the physical installation I'm having a problem with. That was easy enough. I just put it into my case a little while ago, and now I'm having the problem of windows not seeing the drive. The drive is shown well enough in BIOS, and it shows up in the hardware device manager, and is said to be working properly. Right after I installed it, windows detected a new piece of hardware, but it doesn't show in my list of drives.

I have been trying to find out if I need to install a driver or not, and I've seen some stuff to the effect that a driver isn't necessary for a single drive not in RAID, and I've seen that a driver is necessary, regardless of RAID, and I've seen stuff about how to install the SATA drivers with the floppy when in Windows setup (but I don't need to do that). I've looked at DFI and nVidia for the right drivers, but I'm not sure which driver to get.

All I want to do is get my system to detect the drive, so I can move on to the next thing...the VF700cu. Can anyone help?

I think you are going to need those SATA drivers. Which page are they on? I think i might be able to point you to the right ones.

Here's one I downloaded, but haven't installed (but don't know if it's the right one):
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_..._amd_6.66.html

This is the page I found at DFI's site, but damned if I know which one to take...

That first one is your chipset drivers. I think you know that though. I don't think they cover SATA.

Actually, now that i think about it. Socket 939 motherboards take SATA natively so you don't need a driver. I remembered that Socket A motherboards needed a driver on a floppy during windows installation.

So i'm not sure. try this. Right click my computer then click "Manage".

Go to storage, then click Disk management. Is your new SATA drive on there?

Yes. It shows as a Basic disc, but unallocated:

It's funny you mention this, because I went into that area thinking there was some way of getting it to work in there, and I got a few different wizards to come up, but not sure which one to use.

In the first image you should be able to partition your drive. It looks like its being recognized just not partitioned yet. Right click the box that says unallocated and select new partition.

Nice wall paper :P

My other post seems to be gone...oh well...I think I mentioned that the drive works now. All that was needed was the formatting.

Maybe you saw it already (in the other post), but this is my AOL w/p:

Hey, don't sweat it Capper...I figured there was some sort of trouble with the forum, and I was willing to wait for it to come back, which it has.

I saw the message about having to get it back. 8)
