I got a USB flashdrive (Samsung 1GB) but I have a problem with it. I don't know what to use it for. I just got it cuz it was cheap ($24 at the local tigerdirect store). wasn't there some linux distro or something that ran from a USB drive? Any other ideas? I also got a 100 pack of TDK (<3) CD-Rs for $20!

Ever see that commercial... the guy is at an old electronic store and the sales man offers him this huge music player? The sales man says it can hold twice the amount as an Ipod can. The guy asked "Why would I want this?". "Because it's half price". Your thread reminds me of this. :D Flash drive... I can't remember which distro it was sorry. I just had to share my story. ![]() I Like Watercooling. D-Tek Fuzion, MCP655, MCR220

I put programs that I use when I have to go fix a friends computer on my 1 gig flash drive. I also use it to back-up game files before I do a reinstall of windows. It's also handy to put pictures on that I take to show friends and relatives on their computers.

Well I've loaded it up with tons of useful apps(chiefly the rosetta installer and optimized files) as well as portable versions of firefox and open office (awesome!). As I said before I bought this thing on a whim because it was cheap. After doing some research, it turns out this thing is killer! Most of the drives on newegg had a max read speed of 10-18MB/s and a write speed a few MB/s lower. I HD Tach'd this thing and it was a solid 25MB/s average! So anyways, I'm feeling really good about having bought this thing now!

I can't see myself not having one anymore, it's just so much easier than carring a cd or dvd around.

| Modder-ator | Oh man, flash drives are a savior! I've got a 512MB drive and I use it for everything from carrying around resumes to storing regularly needed install files. Nice find on that 1GB flash drive for $24, that's a steal! |
