Default Printer ink

I just bought printer ink from the dollar tree store here for $4 and refilled my HP and it works great. I was paying $56 for Staples brand refills. Anyone here refill their own printer ink?

Not the refill kits, but I've purchased generic ink in catridge form rather than pay the premium for name brand. Overall, I've had mixed results. At times it's worked great and saved a bundle over the genuine stuff, others have clogged a printer's print head so bad that it was beyond repair.

My suggestion when using generics (whether in refill or replacement cartridge form) is to not let too much time lapse in between prints. Some people naturally do a lot of printing, but for those that don't, don't let weeks go by in between prints. You don't want the ink in the print head sitting there for long periods of time, as they tend to clump. Would be a good idea to get on a routine using your printer software's nozzle cleaning function too.

Same advice can be applied to geuine as well, though they're generally better about handling neglect.

The wife uses a lot of ink doing her Mary Kay business.

Exactly what I was going to say. My dad bought refilled ink cartridges, and it clogged our high-end Brother multitask printer. =|
HP and Lexmark are incredibly crappy brands if you want my opinion. Not only their softwares are horrible to use and the drivers slow, but you need either to take el cheapo refills or their "1000 pages" (but more exactly 500 lol) cartridges for $50.00.
You can find third party yet quality Epson and Canon cartridges for nothing however, we sell those for $8.00 at work and they're mighty fine. Just stay away from the too watery cartridges if you don't print every week else you're going to end up with a clogged caddie.

If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. One by one, and two by two, I have ammo, what about you?

nahh, the worst part is when someone uses the refill kit and the cartridge decides to rupture, pretty much making the printer FUBAR.....ran into that once when I used to work at Best Buy........guy had what was the top of the line in HP printers back then that he had refilled the color cartridge......well, let's just suffice it to say that his paper rollers and even the cartridge sensor was inked up beyond any sort of cleaning, and he thought the warranty he bought through the Big Blue Whore would cover that......yeah, we laughed him out of the store. Moral of the story: be careful with refill kits, because they can sometimes come around to bit you on the ass, lol :P
