Default Optimus Maximus: Keyboardus Disappearibus

Click the image to open in full size.

Now going on two years since I first read about it, this concept keyboard sporting programmable OLED displays on each key still holds widespread appeal. Imagine playing Supreme Commander or your RTS of choice with each button showing off a snazzy picture of its function, and then switching profiles to your productivity suite when it comes time to work. Sounds groovy, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, it’s starting to smell like vapor... - Paul "One4yu2c" Lilly

Nice write-up paul! I can't see any practical use for it though, there are a lots of programmable keyboards out there that are a tad bit more affordable. I hardly ever look at my keyboard anyways.

Sweet Go-L computer smackage Paul! That was hilarious!

I can't see paying that kind of cabbage for a keyboard, but the practical uses for it are tremendous. Right now, it may well be vaporware, and any company with any type of cookie-cutter mentality, the Armed Forces for one, wouldn't be buying into this thing, but I can see it being a huge product once the technology behind it becomes the norm rather than the exception.

It will be a good while before the price is even affordable, and even then I'll just cough up $25 for a programmable keyboard over this one. Its just eye candy.

I could see a keyboard like that being useful for a company to set up shortcuts in it's programs to make it easier to train employees. How widespread that would be is something else.

I agree, when OLED tech is much more commonplace this thing will be a realistic proposition.

But I'll bet you the company that came up with this thing won't be the ones to sell it!

The only real application for a product like this is basically just for "wow" factor. You can impress your friends with pretty lights and buttons that cost way more than any keyboard ever should.

Now making OLED monitors, that's where the developments need to be directed toward!

Pft. For $1500 the keyboard should come with Supreme Commander be able to play Supreme Commander with out me and then uninstall Supreme Commander when it doesn't like it. There is also far to many people I know who would like those LCD keys with NSFW pictures. It would be a dream come true for my cousin to be able to reach certain pictures with the click of an orifice or extremity.

XFX Nvidia GeForce 7900GT
