| Lvl 1 College Student | My current printer is getting old. And its starting to suck. Can't print solid-black things anymore. comes out blue. Replaced both ink cartridges but it still did it. Yet somehow it manages to copy all of my dad's stuff (my dad uses it 2-3 times a day to copy things... gets VERY annoying with him coming in every so often to copy stuff. He doesn't have a copier at home so he uses mine) It's an HP psc 2175xi All-In-One. I need a new one. So he can have this one which works fine for him but rarely works well for me (@ printing pictures it fails miserably, but for text it works great) What it requires: -nice high-quality scanner/copier -Card reader (CF, SD required) -USB connection -A/C plug. Not usb powered -Not crappy drivers/software. Preferably under $150. I've spent a couple weeks looking through Circuit city and Fry's and newegg and I haven't found one that I can decisively purchase or differentiate from the rest. Help! Thanks :) |

| I think the Canon Pixma MP510 would be your best bet, given your needs and budget... 1.) The MP510 uses individual inks. Most all-in-ones in this price range do not, and when you print photos more than anything else, you'll burn most of your yellow before the other colors run out on a tri-color ink. The ink capacity in text mode is very good, keeping your consumable costs down (which is one of my big bugs with printers - why pay $50 for a printer and $40 for a black ink for it???) 2.) The MP510 reads just about every card known to mankind. 3.) The Crappy software is an option. You can install just the driver set either from the CD or from a download. 4.) Regardless of advertised numbers, the MP510 looks great printing photos with its 4800x1200 proho resolution on Canon Photo Stock. It rivals my four-year-old Epson Professional Photo 2200 (Yeah, this was a $800 printer!!!) | Lvl 1 College Student | That looks ridiculously good. Especially the individual ink thing. Thats pretty smart. I have to show this to my dad. There's a $30 rebate at Fry's this week, which is enough for 2 or 3 individual ink cartridges. Hopefully I can get this one cuz it looks cool, too :) This is a nice printer :) had it for a week and it pwns :) Prints pictures like a beast & scans hella high. PLUS! scanning actually works! I can save to a pdf or jpeg or w/e I want :) Last edited by gvblake22; April 19th, 2007 at 10:28. Reason: consecutive posts merged |
