Default Locked folders from old computer

I bought a new computer today and it came with a much larger drive then my old one. My plan was to put the old drive into a USB enclosure and dump everything on my new comp. Well all my files are locked right now I can see them but cannot open them or copy them. The old computer was XP home and my new one has Vista home basic. I did some research and did the security thing with the advanced tab etc... but nothing will move. What are my other options??? My next step is to take my old comp put the drive in and hopeffully it would let me acess those files so I can copy them to another USB drive.

Corsaire 2x1gb XMS2
GIGABYTE 965P-DQ6
BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 320

Make sure you make yourself as owner of the files. It's in the same region as the folder and file permissions.

I did that but it's file by file and the drive is almost 500gb I could be doing this for a year everyday. Unfortunately it doesn't do folders. I am looking for a program it's called MIS that thing would unlock everything.

I have had this work for me:

Easily Take Ownership of your Vista files

Quote:
This is also handy if you have an old XP partition or HD laying around and now when you try to access the files Vista wants you take ownership.
Additionally this works:

Add "Take Ownership" to Explorer Right-Click Menu in Vista :: the How-To Geek

Awesome I got all my folders back with the take ownership one. What a pain in the arse that was. Another thing I'm sure you guys can answer that question. My new desktop is all sata except for one IDE ribbon that goes from the mobo to the DVD burner, can I use that same ribbon and hookup a second IDE drive with it? Also there's no regular 12v dc power available can I split that one that poweres up the DVD burner with one of those power splitter connector?

Thanks

Yes to both, but you have to make sure that you use the jumpers on the back of the CD/DVD, and make one the master, and the other the slave. Usually the best choice, is the one that is at the end of the ribbon cable is the master.

Having another problem. Yesterday I unstalled that second drive (IDE) it was working fine, but when I started up my computer this morning it was really slow to boot up and the second drive isn't showing anymore. Plus right now my computer is extremely slow even the smallest task takes for ever.
