Default iPod Alternative

I'm thinking about buying an iPod as gift, but I've read that there are battery and software problems, and the price is a bit over my budget. Are there any good alternatives that you guys can recommend? Thanks

Carl

Yup. Personally I think that Creative's MP3 players sound better, have better features and are much more robust devices. I've used both brands, iPod and Creative, and would still pick Creative over the iPod any day. If it were me, I would look at the Vision:M or the Neeon 2.

Anything would be better than the iPod

I would recommend Creative for their size and function. iAudio/Cowon has some good players. iRiver had some good players but now they only have the Clix =/ They killed off the other line >_<

What type of player do you need? There are two types of storage. Flash and HDD storage. There are also MP3 and MP4 players. If you are looking for a good MP4 PiMP then check out the Cowon A2 or Creative Vision (w?)

Just something for storing and listening to music. Not sure what size would be good since I really have no idea of what the ratio of gb to playing time is. (i.e. how many hours of music is one gig?)
