Default I Bought the Wrong Laptop Hard Drive

Hi:

I was receiving hard drive errors on my Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop so I bought a new hard drive but it is a serial one instead of ATA. Obviously the adapter from the old drive won't fit on the new one. Is there an adapter to make this work or do I need to order another hard drive. Thanks for your help, Kent

return the SATA to where you bought it and get the PATA/IDE based laptop drive

Thanks HL and Corsair!

the problem is that even if you do get an adapter, the space is so tight in a laptop that the adapter wouldn't fit... so thats why I suggest to swap the drive for the IDE version.

That's what I thought. I am thinking of getting this one and want to make sure it will work. I see it is out of stock at Newegg, however.
Newegg.com - HITACHI Travelstar 7K100 HTS721010G9AT00 (0A25015) 100GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache ATA-6 Notebook Hard Drive - OEM

Right now I have a 60GB and so I have searched online and found some Insprion 6000 with 100GB but not the 7K100 model. I am assuming it will work but will continue searching a little longer. Thanks again, Kent

Before you pick up a new drive, see if Spinrite will fix it. I'd be willing to bet it will.

That Spinrite looks pretty amazing but isn't it as expensive as the hard drive. Can it really fix a hard drive's physical problems. I don't know what is wrong with the drive but before I received the errors I heard some louder than usual sounds. I don't need to recover anything on the drive because I have an image of it.
