| I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal. | It wasn't that long ago that Hitachi was the first the reach the 500GB single hard drive milestone, and with the release of the 7k1000, Hitachi retains the capacity crown, also becoming the first to pack 1000 gigabytes into a single drive. But it's not always about finishing first (ask any woman), the performance has to be there too. Join HardwareLogic as we throw the 7k1000 into our testbed and see if it performs as big as it's capacity. Paul Lilly Read More or check it out on our Site in Progress... |

| I'm Diggin it! | Man, that article is Pimpin! ![]() One of these days, when that drive is below $150, I'll have to snag one of them! Great review as usual. Where do you see the data buffers on these things going Paul? 32MB on this drive is the largest I think I've seen before. How much do you think that buffer size plays into the performance of this thing? Diggin it. | I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal. | Buffer size plays a crucial role in a hard drive's performance, and is a big reason why 7200RPM hard drives are able to hang, for the most part, with Western Digital's 10,000RPM Raptors. Where the point of diminishing returns lie, I have no idea, but I suspect we'll continue to see the buffer increase, at least until something else eclipses hard drive technology in general. |

| Very nice! As Quakindude mentioned, once the prices going down I'll have to get myself one of these. At almost 400 dollars, I'd have a hard time justifying the purchase of one of these. ![]() D-Tek Fuzion, MCP655, MCR220 |

| prices will eventually fall but it would be pretty sweet to have a fast 1TB drive sitting inside your rig right now. i believe the 500GB drives are currently at the sweet spot but as more 1TB monsters arrive, prices will fall and make buying one of these more affordable. awesome review Paul Wall! i especially enjoyed the "Get Perpendicular!" music video, hahaha |
