Default HDMI Computer Monitor Question!

i can get a card to be able to use HDMI in my computer. now, im assuming more likely that not that this allows me to attach my computer monitor via HDMI.

what are the advantages to this? is it worth to to this over DVI, and use an XBOX 360 ELITE (for example) through COMPONENT, and use the computer only for HDMI? is it a noticeable enough difference?

how much will the XBOX 360 really suffer...im guessing a lot more significantly that the PC will if used with DVI...but im not sure, hence the reason for this thread.

any thoughts?

thanks!

They make HDMI to DVI adapters. The difference between HDMI and DVI (for example) are going to be very little to none for what you will be using it for. The only somewhat practical thing HDMI really has over DVI is that it can transmit full digital surround sound audio through the same cable as the video. But somehow I doubt you will be using the speakers on your monitor for such a purpose

Otherwise, the component should probably work fine as well. I've never touched an XBox 360 or Playstation 3 (or any High-definition player for that matter) so I can't comment on the video quality of the different connections, I'm just making informed decisions (SWAG).

im pretty sure there is at least a slight noticeable difference when using HDMI vs. Component for XBOX 360 etc...but the computer monitor issue there turned out how i thought it would, basically no difference whatsoever.

so its settled: DVI-DVI for monitor, and HDMI-HDMI for anything i need to connect that i like the most, and Component what i like a little less:P

thanks blake. by the way the ooze case looks AMAZING, keep it up!

I don't know much about this stuff, but isnt HDMI just DVI with audio mixed in?

Yes, and Yes. It needs the higher bandwidth to accommodate the extra audio, as well as for the high resolution HD content. HDMI has the ability to scale with higher HD resolution in the future should there be higher resolution HD standards that come along 10 years from now.

There's not much point... You can see a booger 200 ft away on a 1080p monitor (not really, but you get the drift).

Yeah, things higher than 1920x1080 would probably only ever be used in HUGE screens (like movie theaters and 100+ inchers). It's just crazy huge!
