| Level 2 College Student | Which one do you guys think is the best? 1) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817145162 2) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817145133 I personally like the NexStar, but it doesn't have cooling, which is a MUST, IMO. It says "Aluminum Casing Cools Down Your Hard Drive" but I am not sure.... The one I have now got pretty hot when I did some work with it. I formatted all 300gb of it and it got pretty warm. I have yet to see what it gets on idle though. It's a CoolMax HD 360. At fry's it was like 40 bucks, so I think I'm gonna return it to fry's and buy a new one off newegg. |

| I'm Diggin it! | The one with active cooling has good reviews. If it isn't too loud, that's the one I would go with. Heat = Teh B4d Q6600@ 3.2GHz w/ CNPS9700 | EVGA 780i | 2Gb Corsair DDR2-800 | EVGA GTX 280 1Gb Video | 1x WD 640Gb HDD, 2x Seagate 400Gb HDD, 1x250Gb WD | 2x Samsung SH-203B Opticals | Antec 900 | ABS/Tagan BZ700 700W PSU |

| The Mapower looks cool and has active cooling. Even if it is loud, a fan replacement mod will solve the problem. Hard drives only need a little airflow over them. ![]() D-Tek Fuzion, MCP655, MCR220 |

| T-Rex | My friend bought a NexStar like this and I can say it was cold to the touch. He was also worried about his drive temperatures and while I can't exactly remember the temps (it's been a while) they were very reasonable for a hard drive. I personally used this enclosure (though mine had a fan) and the most annoying thing about it was actually the fan. Since it was a small cheap fan it took less than a week to start making a rattling noise. I disconnect it for my sake and it's doing good even without it :P I'm not too sure what you are using your external hard drive for, but only very little airflow is needed most of the time. Temperatures of 35C aren't deadly for a hard drive. |

| I wouldn't worry about heat in the NexStar. Most drives don't really generate a ton of heat, and the aluminum casing should be enough to dissapate what heat is generated. I've heard alot of good things about that enclosure, and personally if I was buying an enclosure now, the NexStar would be it. ![]() |

| Level 2 College Student | -It's a maxtor diamondmax 10- -I'm enclosing it because I want an external hard drive Luckily I found a jumper somewhere in my bajillions of screws. I set it to CS and I'm formatting it now (200gb; takes a while) [edit]Okay, It attempted to format and failed. I'm going to plug it into my other PC and see if it works..... If it does. This enclosure is gone, cuz its obviously the enclosure. |
