Default DVI/Anolog Cable together?

Does anyone know if you can connect both DVI and anolog cables into an LCD at the same time?? I share 1 keyboard, mouse and LCd between 2 computers via a KVM. Can I hook my DVI cable from my computer to my monitor direct, bypassing the KVM switch..... but still use the Anolog cable for the other computer via the KVM switch?? So i computer gets the DVI and the other computer gets the analog...

thanks... an answer might save me the trouble of having to pull the desk out and climb back behind.....

If your monitor supports switching between VGA and DVI, i don't see why not.

Yeah, there shouldn't be a problem with that. You would just have to switch the input source on your monitor to display the different things. It's not going to blow up or anything if that's what you're worried about.

Yea, I just figured out that my monitor (Samsung 2220WM 22") was able to do this. I have my mac hooked up to the Analog port and the DVI hooked up to my main rig. So I hit the Source button and it'll switch between the two computers, I just have to unplug the USB cable from the keyboard and plug it into whichever compy I'm switching too (my mouse is connected to the keyboard, so theres only one cable to switch).

It comes in real handy to do this as I was using a small CRT monitor for my mac which wasn't very fun.....

This is possible only if the monitor has a "source" switch that allows you to switch between the two. If no switch then no you can't do that.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Thanks for posting that bit of info.... I hooked the cables up and I was good until i went to change to the next computer..... everythign changed except my monitor..... I was wondering WTF....... then I read ur post and noticed I had to press a button on the front of the monitor to switch over...... its all good now.... thanks to everyone......

i dont know if its just me or not, but things seem to be a little brighter and clearer with the DVI..... didnt think I would see a difference..... maybe its my mind playing tricks on me...

DVI is a purely digital interface whereas VGA converts to analog, so it is easy to see why DVI is the preferred connection.

It's not your mind playing tricks or anything, DVI is brighter and clearer and better all together than Analog is.
