The porn industry has announced that porn movies will be released on Blue-Ray so kiss HD-DVD goodbye. Going back to Beta vs VHS the porn industry chose VHS and that was the last nail in the Betamax coffin.

sad but true... and HD-DVD had such potential.... oh well I am happy with my plain old DVD player so no need to jump until next-gen burners come down to the sub-$100 range

"The Porn Industry" isn't a single entity. Where are you getting this information from?

If you are referring back to the Betamax/VHS war, its not the same playing field. Beta max failed for many more reasons other than lack of porn.

Just like Betamax HD-DVD is having the same problems. Digg had a link to a article and apparently the porn industry is going Blue-Ray. Yes I know that their not a single entity but they do have major players who have decided to go with Blue-Ray.

Like consumers, the adult film industry has a choice to make when it comes to HD DVD and Blu-ray, the two formats vying to be the successor to DVD. A couple of stories on the subject have surfaced recently; the first claims that Blu-ray disc manufacturers don't want the porn industry releasing content on Blu-ray, while a second story says that adult filmmakers have decided to cast their lot with HD DVD.
Adult film producer There Joone told Heise Online that his company, Digital Playground, would be going with HD DVD for future HD releases. Joone reportedly said that none of the Blu-ray manufacturing facilities would press discs for his company, saying that Sony had threatened to pull their licenses if they produced adult content.

Ron Wagner, director of IT operations at E! Entertainment Television Inc., in Los Angeles, said his company has already chosen the Blu-ray Disc format, in large part because of talk in the porn industry favoring it over rival HD-DVD.
Wagner said that while attending last year’s National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) annual conference in Las Vegas, more than one panel discussed “several major players in the porn industry going the Blu-ray route.” He said the Blu-ray vs. HD-DVD rivalry was also the buzz around NAB 2006 last month.

The list goes on. No shortage of reading on the subject. Personally I doubt the porn industry alone will dictate the format. Then too, whatever. I will worry about it after the dust settles.

Not only the porn industry, but now both Paramount and Universal seem to be moving over to Blu-Ray. Whether it's exclusive or not, this now means that Blu-Ray has the support of every movie studio in Hollywood.

So, literally, bye bye HD-DVD.

Disney is backing Blue Ray now although it did back both for quite awhile.

Opinion: Blu-ray or HD DVD -- neither, thanks
