Default XP Security Updates

I didn't read any announcement about this anywhere, but MS snuck in 5 security updates to XP and 1 update to that mystical software removal tool. They showed up this morning when I went up to check updates.

Not sure what exactly you are referring to or trying to say, but M$ has had these "Security Updates" forever and there are probably at least 100 of them.

I used to not even bother downloading them and never had a problem. But I got tired of always seeing them so I eventually just downloaded and installed them all. It doesn't seem to affect performance at all...

Yeah, I don't really see the point of downloading most of those updates. They rarely have any effect at all. If they weren't automatic, I'd never download them. I'm using Linux now though.

I realize they have been coming out forever, but they are usually accompanied by some announcement from somebody who says what they are for. Usually it is done to announce that someone has uncovered yet another hole in the code that had to be fixed. I usually see those announcements much earlier than I see the actually updates. I was just surprised this time....thats all.

They do fix holes, though unless you know where to check they won't tell you exactly what has been fixed, for obvious security reasons. :P
