Default XP must not like WMP 11

I don't know what's up with Win Media Player 11 vs. XP (other than the fact that they're both M$ products), but sometimes when I'm mucking around doing stuff with it (like looking through my library, or ripping cds), my taskbar goes all retro on me, and it goes to looking like what it did on much earlier versions of Windows. And the only way to get the taskbar back to normal is do a reboot.

If it's not fixed, then don't broke it!

Not a lot that MS has released for XP has worked well in the last year or so. I run XP pro x64 and while WMP 11 works it's pretty hard to get everything to work at the same time! It is better about licenses than 10 but it has real issues with VMR and hardware overlay and they make the issue worse by hiding the controls for it in obscure menus. Even when you find where they are a lot of times you'll tell it to do something and it goes all dumb and ignores you. Color controls work sometimes - especially with nvidia cards. Still not much else that will run protected files, though - which is just the way MS wanted it. I use it only for that purpose - for video playback I found an unknown player that beats everything including ZoomPlayer for quality and usefulness. It's called the Neuview Pro Player - google it and try it - it makes everything else look dark ages.

I found WMP 11 to be unstable from the get-go. System locked up, crashed. Rolled back to version 10 and no more problems. I wonder if it depends which version of XP you're running. I'm running Pro, but my roommate's desktop has Home Edition and that has had no problems....

Everyone seems to have problems with WMP11 in XP. There is no reason to get 11, so I would uninstall it and stick with 10. 11 does of course work well in Vista

Don't tell me about overlay and such. It totally nuked my directshow filters to the point I was tempted to re-install Windows. Never again will I update WMP, i'll stick with my good ol' media player classic and CCCP. :)

I think it works a little better on 64bit systems but honestly I just don't have time to tweak it for everyday use. Especially after I found the Neuview thing which needs no tweaking and has about 300% better image quality upon install with no tweaking or adjusting. I don't want to sound like a cheerleader so I'm hoping one of you guys will download it and then give your own opinion - I'm trying to help you out here!

Tested the Neuview player. It's okay. Basicly all it does is sharpen the image to different degrees and change the gamma/contrast/brightness.
Still heavy on resources, does not have alot of features unlike Media Player Classic which stays my all time favorite.

WMP works fine in Vista...

iTunes pisses me off though. Every once in a while, my videos decide to corrupt themselves and then uncorrupt themselves later....
