Default Windox?

This may seem like a really crazy thought, but do any of you think there's a chance that Microsoft would ever switch to a Unix (or Unix-like) Windows platform? That thought just popped into my head as I was talking to somebody about the Macbooks. It'd put the anti-malware companies out of business, but we'd have malware-free PCs, leaving more resources to our games!

The downside, of course, would be that none of the old software would be compatible, but I think it'd be a great idea.

What do you guys think?

Never happen. If the consumers aren't asking for it, they would never go to the expense of doing it.

true... like I said, it's a crazy thought. But it'd be really neat if they did though, because all of the good games are only available on Windows :)

The only reason why I continue to use Windows is because of DirectX support. I know there is a Linux distro out there that supports DX games but I'm not willing to pay the monthly fee.

From what I understand, Cedega doesn't always work perfectly, either. That's why it's so hard to recommend Linux to a gamer (among other reasons). If you're not willing to give up any games, don't even bother with Linux.

this si why dool-booting is gaining in popularity.. keep a 5-10GB partition with XP on it and the rest is all for Linux... I am working my way there myself

Thanks HL and Corsair!

That's right on.

Unix is like porn. Its better when its free.

Why would M$ go through all the trouble of building a Unix bases windows anyways? Support would suck, I can't see a Unix based windows doing well. Especially if people saw the console.

Microsoft wouldn't do that, that means they would have to admit defeat that their kernel sucks

although there is someone who made an ultra slim version of windows with the Free-BSD ala UNIX core..Fully windows program compatible with full DX9 support. This person and the OS name shall remain nameless unless I get a PM
