| Just got prompted earlier. So this is it, final version, sending out to take over the world and everything. :P I will be upgrading my fleet probably overnight, I will let you guys know how this goes. On another note, Vista SP1 also re-shipping now. I'm not sure if they fixed the RMS compatibility problem they were having, but it's back. ![]() If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. One by one, and two by two, I have ammo, what about you? | ||||||||||||||

| I got prompted for it too. Didn't download it though, I'm waiting to make sure people aren't reporting any horror stories with it first... | ||||||||||||||

I haven't had problems with previous SP3 installations, I doubt this one would be the same. Got it download then installation was a breeze. I'll restart in a second... ![]() If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. One by one, and two by two, I have ammo, what about you? | |||||||||||||||

| Polo, did you have IE7 installed when you updated to SP3? I ask because I just got through reading THIS: Have you already updated your XP SP2 system to IE7 or a beta version of IE8? You need to uninstall IE7 or IE8 beta before you install SP3 (SP3 includes IE6) and reinstall your choice of IE7 or IE8 beta after updating to SP3. Need to uninstall IE7? See KB 927177 for help. | ||||||||||||||

| First thing first, my custom desktop themes got shot. But that's not surprising, it's always this way when a service pack is installed. For those interesting in running custom desktop themes, the patched uxtheme.dll can be found here. My main rig appears a tad slower when browsing my files and opening programs. However, that's likely due to prefecthing simply needing to cache the new files. Performance should be back to normal in a few days. Internet Explorer 7 is a forced update. Oh well, I won't use it anyway. :P Edit: Nevermind that. Although it showed as if a new Internet Explorer was being installed, I'm still under IE6. ![]() Which pretty much proves what Paul just typed. :P Other than that... nothing seems problematic. I will need to poke at tcpip.sys to see if I can have more than the ridiculously low half-open TCP connections that SP2 forced on you, which was of 10. For most people, that's more than enough. However for anyone using sharing programs such as BitTorrent, this means catastrophic speeds and utterly long connection times. ![]() If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. | I have a system, that I installed the stand alone final version of SP3, and have had no problems at all ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() They pretty much just included all of the previous critical updates, with a few extras that has come out, but no one should see much, if any difference in the operating system after SP3. Isn't like Vista SP1 with all of the compatibility fixes ![]() | ||||||||||||||

| To follow my previous post, tcpip.sys goes unchanged by SP3. Same as it was in SP2, so same goofy limitations. Same way to fix it too though. :) As stinger says it's more of a combo of little tweaks than anything else. Nothing like the major overhaul SP2 was. If you are an FFDSHOW user, you will need to re-register certain filters so that all your codec works. Easiest way is simply to re-install FFDSHOW or your favorite codec package. ![]() If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. | So the uxtheme.dll has to be re-patched for SP3? In other words, you can't use the uxtheme.dll multi-patcher that was made for SP2? | ||||||||||||||
