Twice as fast? Nothing on my XP install on my same rig is anywhere near twice as fast as my VIsta install. At most its a 3-8% difference. Plus they used a notebook, and didn't supply any specifications other then ram.

I have seen about a 25-75% speed response of XP over Vista...

Thanks HL and Corsair!

in what applications?
and on what type of system?

I have been running Vista for a while and have only seen about a 12% difference and that is with applications that have to run in compatibility mode.
for many other things it is just as fast if not slightly faster.

They're talking about XP SP3 Beta, though, which in itself is faster than SP2...

Yep, I would have to agree that Vista is slightly faster responding than XP sp2! If they are comparing it to the, not released, SP3 for XP, it really doesn't matter much! Until the final release of SP3 is issued, it is pretty much all speculation

Articles like that are worthless in thier speculation
again we would need to know the exact details of the system
Yes Vista requires more horsepower to run but unless you throw is on an Old Mobility M7 or something like that you shoule still have a good performing system
I have Vista Ultimate on an E-mailchine with a single core Athlon 64 3200+ 1.25GB ram and a 9600M for video.
It runs great.
I use it for the kids to play online and watch movies on road trips.

Considering that the response from almost the entire world uniformly agrees that XP is indeed quicker than Vista, this article has some validity. This is just a "hey, I also found out this" kind of article considering (almost) everyone's complained about Vista by now.

They never argued about Vista's responsiveness, though, which I can not attest to. Sure, Vista might be or feel more responsive than XP, but if most software and drivers aren't "optimized" for the OS, then XP is still the desktop OS king as of this moment.

Still, I have confidence than Vista is eventually going to supercede XP. Just not in the immediate or near-future. If and when DX10 titles are looking and playing great, drivers are optimized for the OS, software is written cleanly and working nicely, it will do so smoothly. Until then, most power users are going to stick with XP.

Like people say, it's just like with XP. It's just going to take a while longer.
