| I have a new (recently RMA'd and arrived imaged) Windows 2000 Server box that is having problems with Windows Updates. It fails on the Windows Installer 3.1 update and the Update for Background Intelligent Transfer (BIT) Service. MS help tells me that I need to get the BIT service started but when I try to do that I get an "error 1068: the dependency service or group failed to start" message. Has anyone had this issue and/or know how to correct it? ![]() :beerglass: Without chemicals such as hydrogen and oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital ingredient in beer. -- Dave Barry |

| The Real Final Word | For one, if you are using Firefox you can always go to Windizupdate and get all of the critical updates from that site. WindizUpdate If you are using IE6, or 7, check the security settings. |

| Thanks stinger but I seemed to have figured it out. There was another service that I had disabled that needed to be running in order for me to run the BIT service. I still had some issues getting things downloaded without failure but after about 10-15 trys it seemed to miraculously fix itself. Gotta love that Microsoft....NOT! ![]() :beerglass: Without chemicals such as hydrogen and oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital ingredient in beer. -- Dave Barry |
