Default Windows Home Server Preview

Wow, I do mean Wow!!! This looks to be an awesome addition to a home network

It will automatically back up every, I mean every computer system that you have in a network. Not only that, but it does it with image software, and if you have 2 computers that have the same file, it only stores one copy to drastically reduce the back up space required!!!

It is said that they can back up 16-19tb of information on 300gb drive!!!

Well read Paul Thurrott's preview of this awesome sounding version of Windows server!

Microsoft feels like it's arrived at an interface that is simple enough "even for mom" while being powerful enough for even the most jaded power user
Not even Microsoft can make something that can be that easy.

BUT

That does look incredibly awesome. I would consider possibly maybe thinking about buying that

The bad thing about this, Microsoft is not doing the Beta testing, it is sending it out to a private sector to be beta tested????? huuu Wonder what is up there, and who it is going to be beta tested by?

Man, it does look to be an awesome server version though. I am going to do some digging around and try to find out what is going on with the beta testing end of this stuff!!!

I know, hey Capper, Bill Gates is at CES!!!! Tell him that HardwareLogic wants to be the public beta testers for the Windows Home Server!!!!

Yeah, I think it’s a great Idea. It makes a lot of sense. There are a lot of homes that have 2 or more computers now with multiple users in the same home.

Headrick told me that people don't do backups today because it's too complicated and they don't like to push buttons.
I must say that I completely disagree with that. If that were the case, more PC enthusiasts would be backing up their data. People don't avoid it because it's complicated, they avoid it because it takes too long and they want to do something else. (Memories of Blake missing out on CS:S come to mind here LOL)

I'd like to see someone come up with a file system that utilizes magnetic patterns on the disk to store more data than it can hold in a normal file system. I'm sure it'd be very slow, but it'd be great for backups.

Dude two words, Spell Check!

Firefox 2.0x has a spell checker and this forum supports it, please do us all a favor and install it. Or at least learn how to spell common words like Want and When.

They are saying the 2nd quarter of this year!!!

I have to agree though, I would love to check this sucker out!!! Man, you just build you a mild box (Microsoft says a 1gz or better) and to top that off, you don't need a monitor, keyboard or mouse!!! It is all done through a desktop app that you install on one of the networked computers
