Default Windows activation question.

Suppose I've made a backup drive image of a hdd that contains an activated windows XP. If I format the primary drive and restore said formatted drive to the aforementioned image, will the XP instance already be activated, or will I need to reactivate? For the record, I am in no way trying to "dodge" activation, it's more of a hypothetical question. =). Thanks

yes it should come back already activated as that information is stored in the backed up registry

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Hmmm. Thanks =). If it'll indeed preserve the registry perfectly, that would keep one from having to reinstall games that require registry entries for only the fact.

Actually it depends on the type of backup you're restoring. If it's an image backup then yes everything will be just like it was before, if it's just a file backup then you might have to reactivate windows.
