Default Why would this happen?

Recently, I've had to run my system restore a few times to try to fix a couple of minor issues. It looks as if it is working like it should, and when the system restarts, it says that the system restore could not be completed and could not be restored to X date and X time.

The first time it happened was right after the first of the year, when I tried to take it back to a date in late December. I thought it might be because the system could not back itself up to a time in the previous year, perhaps because the time I was going to would conflict with the system clock as set in BIOS. Maybe that's totally off base, but it's all I could think of. So I chose the first date after the first that had a restore point, and it worked. But I just tried it again (because my Registry Mechanic is messing up again), and set it for a couple of days ago, and again, it didn't complete the restoration.

Why would the System Restore not work?

If it's not fixed, then don't broke it!

I don't know why but I've had that happen before. I just reinstalled windows and went about my business. I thought that system restore might have become corrupt from a worm or virus perhaps.

Never used registry mechanic, but wonder if this is your issue.

I've had similar problems too, a couple of times I was able to rollback using safe mode, last time I tried it was in december and I had to reformat.

From what I know, this is caused by minor registry corruption (registry mechanic is neither the culprit or the cure for this one) and/or the system restore files themselves becoming corrupted. I don't know of a cure for this though, except to make a new restore point and see if you can find a way around the problems yourself.

Try running Tune Up Utilities. Excellent program, and the 30 free trial version actually fixes registry errors, unlike a lot of the other free trial programs.
