I'd like to see someone write an article about installing an open source operating system...along with describing the benefits and drawbacks of using one....anyone interested in taking on that challenge?

I went through my own little alt-OS adventure last week, trying three different linux distros. It wouldn't be a very interesting writeup though as all of them failed for one reason or another. Fedora Core 4 had no idea that I had a wireless ethernet adapter and refused to play nice with my monitors, FC5 wouldn't even initialize after multiple reinstallations. Then I tried korrora, which had awesome display support, but still couldn't find my wireless card, and so I gave up. =\

Yes. My initial impression from Ubuntu Linux Distro was pretty dissapointing. I followed several guides online and even got help from someone through IM but I could not get the codecs working. The whole purpose of me running Ubuntu was as a multimedia system. Threw that idea down the drain.

Windows XP.

I would like to give Linux a try (I have a LiveCD of Linux) but I'm finding it has a big learning curve compared to Windows. (I could be biased though)

Id try to take the challenge of writing that up

Stachboy its really upto what distro you use, like using Slackware as your first linux OS is not a good idea at all, Ubuntu is one of the easiest, buts its administration isnt that good, Fedora Core 4 is nice too, SuSE 10.0 Probably has the eaiset installer and easiest way to administrate and install stuff
