Default vista on a cell phone

DailyTech - Willcom Shows Off First Production Atom Device

Quote:
Willcom's D4 WSO16SH sports a 1.33GHz Intel Atom processor

Intel's Atom processors were officially announced in March and garnered great interest from mobile professionals around the globe. Intel promises that its Silverthorne-based Atom processors -- destined for Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) -- will feature TDPs ranging from 0.65 W to 2.4 W while processor speeds start at 800MHz and go on up to 1.86GHz.

Willcom's D4 WSO16SH will be priced at around $1,272 USD when it launches in Japan in mid-June.
a 1.33GHz cell phone and they were dumb enough to pair it with Vista? who is the moron that allowed MS to get the OS contract on this (oh wait it was probably Intel)? they are better off with an open source option...

Thanks HL and Corsair!

wow, 1.86ghz on a cell phone. Thats really good, I cant wait to see the full range of handheld products mode possible with intel Atom.
And why vista? its slow, sluggish and eats memory.

Linux would have been a better option than Vista.

Windows mobile 6 would have been awesome. It just needs more juice than most phones can push.

I don't get it... You'd need at least a PDA with a stylus of some kind to be able to even scratch the surface of what any basic operating system is meant to be used for. What good does an operating system like Vista (or even Ubuntu) do on a cell phone when it is time consuming enough just to scroll through a list of contacts or change a ringtone?

It is impressive, yes. But practically speaking, I really don't care about having an operating system like Vista on the typical cell phone.
