| I know in XP you can just go to Add/Remove Pregrams and uninstall IE7. Maybe that applies to Vista also? Can you download a plug-in for FF to use YM? | HL's Technomancer | Disable UAC immediately, its a pain in the ass ![]() For IE, I just deleted it's folder. But the real way of doing it is to go to Start, then Default Programs, then Set Up Defaults, and change what IE opens. A couple of the options you wont be able to change, like the .urls when someone sends you a link over an IM, and the MHTML which I believe is whats causing your problem with Yahoo. The only way I know of so far to completely kill IE is to go into the registry, and replace all the iexplore entries with Firefox. |

| thats also one of my problem, UAC is not letting me disable in the option, its just not letting me have an option (option disable is in unclickable fashion). Stormcrow would deleting IE7 folder in Vista Home Premium cost any trouble in long run??? Coz i dont want to just delete it without know what damage will it make. beside the fact i just started making Rescue Disk. well let me tell you this guy we bought this laptop from Circuitcity : he was offering everything from accessories, to extra batteries, bag, Rescue Disk, and addt'l Service Plan, then i suddenly cut what he saying, and i said : "does it sucks your obliged to offer me all this stuff and all i say is NO, and i told you from the start this is not my family's first laptop" " He just nood and trying to point the supervisor watching over them, poor guy its like a slavery, wat the heck they get cut from the sales anyway... well guys to tell you the truth i'm very tempted to just install a XP PRO right now if i got a CD Installer, this VIsta is not only Annoying and very freaking slow with C2D5250 Notebook Proc @ 1.6ghz, to the fact it has a 2gb RAM, its just giving me headache... ![]() help me out here? | HL's Technomancer | Eh, yeah. Whenever you go to open something that opens in IE, you get a error message instead and the thing never opens. I did this because I did the same on XP, before I found out that Vista has it ingrained and near impossible to remove. Also lots of parts of the OS use IE naturally, so I'm probably going to have to reinstall...erg, IE7. I don't recommend hard deleting it at all, I even got a nice little message saying that it's going to cause some things to not work properly. First thing I would do is give it a fresh install of Vista, to get rid of all the OEM crap they load your system down with. That should give you a nice speed boost. As for UAC, have you tried going into the Control Panel to Security Center and turning it off there? That worked for me. If you got a copy of XP, dual boot that sucker. If I still had a valid XP key I'd dual boot Vista and XP together, simply as to have a fall back when Vista gets cranky or I get sick of the random hangs that happen when playing music. So far I've only been able to come across redirecting IE's preferences to Firefox through the registry, uninstalling it seems impossible due to so many parts of the OS using it. I would dual boot XP with Vista for now until it matures a little more, and then fiddle around in the regkeys to force Firefox to open specific links instead of IE. |

| so that laptop is doomed by vista to use IE7, coz i doesnt make sense to use two browser, although i prefer FF alone... well, if i get hold of an XP CD , currently looking, for some discounted store and make my wife pay for it, the lowest XP so far is $140.99 +S&H&Tax, so i dont know where i can find a cheaper OEM version. and dual boot is out of my plan, dont ask not a fanboy of dualboot. why is it MS is so self-conceited people that they think all of their product works like GODLY MODE ??? | XP Pro x64, is the same price if not $10 cheaper than Xp Pro x86. and it will see upto 128gb of memory. And if your printer is less than 18 months old, most manufacturers have drivers. | I would suggest just forgetting about IE7. Leave it alone and use FF. I went and disabled some windows services. That seemed to speed my computer up a bit. Type in services.msc in the search in Start. Then change the services using this list Windows Vista Service Configurations by Black Viper (it was just posted by another member of this forum) Another thing I just used recently that made vista way more snappy was i downloaded a free program called Easycleaner. It's a registry cleaner that deletes stupid windows registry keys that slow your computer down and you don't need them anyways. Once I ran Easycleaner I was amazed how fast vista was. It was just as fast as it was when I first booted it up after installing it. So if your interested heres a direct link to download Easycleaner http://toniarts.freeware4u.com/tafiles/EClea2_0.exe Did you get UAC disabled? That thing is so annoying. If you didn't, make sure you are running in the administrator account. Also remember to reboot the PC once you disabled it. Oh and about Yahoo. I do not believe you can tell Yahoo to use FF instead of IE. Thats just the way it is. I hope that helps ![]() C2D E8400 3.0GHz Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Rev.2 Samsung 20x Burner Samsung 500GB Seagate 160GB ASUS HD 3870 512mb 4GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 mhz PC Power and Cooling Silencer 610w Samsung 226BW 22" |

| In order to turn off uac, you'll need to browse to Start / Control Panel / User Accounts / User Accounts / Turn User Access Control On or Off. |
