Default Vista backup question

I know their is a way to backup your computer so that you can roll back to the last time it was working at top performance, but i cant remember how to do it or how to do it with vista specifically. Does anybody know? or recommend doing it?

System Restore?
There are a few backup programs out there like Norton Ghost, Acronis TrueImage, Microsoft SyncToy.... just depends on what you are looking for

Thanks HL and Corsair!

i have never used any of them, just a buddy of mine was telling me its basically like reformatting your computer if anything goes wrong, just system restore it instead of format

Yes. I've had to use restore a few times on my Vista machine, before it finally died of a windoze disease. Not sure what made it die, but it had nothing to do with Restore. That does work nicely.

Vista has a built in backup utility that ghosts your hard drive contents to another hard drive just like GHOST and Acronis. Its in Control Panel -> Backup and Restore Center -> Complete PC backup. You need a spare HDD of equal size or larger for it to ghost the drive, but in the end it will be able to completely restore the installation from the backup copy image to fix problems System Restore can't.
