Default Video converter...

I need to convert my DVD-rips to MP4, aka iPod format, so I can put them on my iPod. Normally, I use Nero Recode, which is a hell of an app and because it's dual-core enhanced, everything converts quickly... Problem is that on the last DVD-rip I tried to convert (Borat), it shot the audio 10 seconds ahead of the video.

So the question is, does anyone know a video converter that really doesn't mess up the audio/video sync?

VLC does a great job, but it's a lot trickier to use than other apps, so it's hard to recommend it. If I remember right, you have Kubuntu installed. Run sudo apt-get install k9copy. k9copy is like DVDShrink on steroids. It can rip your movies to ISO and MP4 plus a million other features.

DVDFab Decrypter is supposed to be able to do this but I don;t have an iPod so I can't vouch for the results.... but I have heard it works great!

Intervideo's DVD Copy 5 is very nifty. Really doesn't get much easier, and you can choose a wide variety of rips (including iPod, PSP, Gameboy, etc).

You're a god Paul! Haha, that's the perfect program. Do you know if it's dual-core enhanced like Recode 2?

I can't verify whether it's specifically coded to multithreaded lovin', but can say that it works fast. Down the free trial and give it a spin.
