Arrow Upgrading hardware and integrating XP

Not really sure what to search for so I'll just start a new thread.

What software or process would you recommend for a smooth transition when upgrading motherboards? I always just start off with a fresh XP install, but starting over 10+ times every six months is getting really old. Is there any software that exists to ensure a smooth transition when upgrading motherboards?

I am not quite sure what you are asking?

You upgrade motherboards in excess or 20 times a year?

Ron

Hmmm ... sounds like having a better backup solution might be the issue.

With new Mobos of different manufacture ... it is simply best to do a fresh install.

My favorite backup program after testing about a dozen of them ... is Paragon Drive manager Pro.

A nice incremental backup with a tiny footprint and very fast ... is "second copy."

I personally use an encrypted drive with truecrypt ... to keep all my "special files and folders and some sensitive programs" in.

Then I just simply copy that folder to whatever PC I need ... and once unencrypted ... wala ... everything is there. My web browser runs in it, so do all of my passwords and my trade platform for investing.

So ... to rebuild my PC after a virgin install ... takes about an hour or less.

If your constantly reinstalling XP, best thing to do is to grab Nlite and Nlite Add-On Maker. With Nlite, you create a custom XP install that can automatically include all updates and service packs, as well as automatically set up your usual settings on install right off the CD. With the Add-On Maker, you can slipstream programs you always grab like Firefox, antivirus, music players, and all that so they install along with the Windows installation. Makes life much more simpler.

This is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. I wonder if there is any way to install games with the serial # already registered in it...

Also, can you integrate motherboard drivers into the XP installation?
