Default Uninstall Thunderbird

My Thunderbird program has been a bit wonky lately: slow opening, won't edit many messages to be forwarded, slow sending and sometimes won't send at all.

Any way, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it several times now, but no matter how careful I am to purge the system of the old installation, parts of it remain. The result is that the new installation opens with all the old messages, setting, and problems that I had before.

Is there a way to completely remove Thunderbird form my computer before I do a new install? (This thing is beginning to remind me of Norton!) Thanks.

Just so it's clear, what directories did you remove manually?

Uninstalled program from CCleaner the first time; later (after reinstall) uninstalled using Windows.

Ran CCleaner to clear registry.

Searched for and deleted all files pertaining to Thunderbird. (Can't remember their names.)

I'm not at home, so I can't add more until this evening.

Do I, perhaps, need to uninstall first in safe mode. (I noticed there were back-up files listed for that location.)

Perhaps. The only data directories I *know* for sure for Thunderbird are in %AppData% (Documents and Settings\Application Data) though.

Tried a reinstall again (searched for all remnants of the program) but that resulted in even worse results. Now it doesn't seem to interface with Firefox; "send link" is now unresponsive. I'm nearly to the point of wiping out my C drive and reinstalling everything, or switching mail clients. (That would be the easiest route, but who ever said I like to do things the easy way?) Argh!

wow never had this problem... may want to find an "install" logger to see what all gets installed and where so you can clear it out

you can try looking under:

C:\Documents and Settings\*username*\Application Data\Thunderbird\

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Can't figure this one out. Today I was no longer able to open URL addresses in emails. With fewer functions working each day, I could have sworn I had a virus. Thinking that AVG might have missed something, I downloaded and ran NOD32, but that came up clean also.

Anyway, I'm unable to sleep tonight, so I said the heck with it and I'm reinstalling Windows. Like to do a fresh installation every six or eight months anyway so now seemed like a good time.

You may have a virus or trojan that is interfering with the uninstall. This could also explain the crappy performance you're experiencing.

I would do everything in safe mode after verifying that your system is indeed clean of the nasties (or get rid of anything a couple A/V apps find first.

That was my first suspicion. Ran Spybot, Windows Defender, AdAware, AVG Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, Anti-Rootkit, then NOD32. All scans were clean. Finally I just reinstalled Windows and all is fine now. Thanks to all for their suggestions.
