| I was going to install Ubuntu for the first time last night and came across an issue that is kinda weird for me when it comes to installing an OS. The damn thing doesn't want to start up to be installed. I downloaded a copy from the Ubuntu website (6.10 i386, and 6.06 64-bit version). I used Nero to create one disc (i386) and Infra Recorder to create a second disc, both with the same result. I then tried Nero to create the 64-bit version and it didn't work either. I can get as far as loading the Ubuntu window, then it freezes and thats as far as it gets. I've been interested in trying it out for about a year now but didn't want to trash my system. I decided since I'm getting a copy of Vista soon, that it wouldn't matter if I trashed it or not. | I myself have been experimenting with Kubuntu and another one called, SabayonLinux, both booted up fine (I was using the DVD versions) Did you also download the MD5 hash file, it would be possible your .iso's are corrupted, I would first check if the images are not corrupted before burning. Can you be more specific on how far you got, can you at least see the first boot menu and select any options, if so try using safe mode or VGA modes (if there are any, kubuntu had some.) You can also wait for some "Linux experts" to show up on the forum, there are a few, they can probably help you out more. || AMD Athlon64 3800+ Venice | Asus A8N5X s939 | OCZ Premier PC3200 Du-Ch 1GB | Sapphire X1600Pro 512MB PCI-e | 1xWD 80Gb & 1xWD 250Gb Sata(s) | Antec SLK3800B Case | Enermax NoiseTaker 485W || |

| Colonel Calamity | What speed did you burn the discs at? I have had the same issues when they were burned at higher speeds. The best results have been when burning at 8x or 16x (CD iso version). Also I have had issues with 6.10 myself so look for the x86 of 6.06.1 ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! My opinions are my own and not representative of this site or its members. |

| I'm able to select to start or install Ubuntu. It gets to the part where the Ubuntu desktop is displayed, then it freezes but the mouse can move. I can't select anything and have to manually restart the computer. The two of the ISO's were burned at 8x and the 64-bit was burned at 40x. I didn't remember seeing a dvd version available so I'll have to check. | I've donwloaded and created the DVD disc and tried to install but it does the same thing as the CD version. I booted as normal to start or intall Ubuntu and it gets to the peach colored screen, then the computer restarts. I tried boot in safe graphics mode and it gets the the peach screen with the rectangular box that says Ubuntu and freezes. I'm thinking Ubuntu doesn't like my system for some reason and I can't figure out why. I thought it was supposed to be easy to install from all the install videos I saw on youtube. ![]() AMD Athlon 64 Processor 4000+ Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe 4 GB DDR SDRAM 2 eVGA GeForce 7800 GT 256 MB 2 Seagate Barracuda 7200 (200GB each) Thermaltake Tsunami Windows XP SP2 |

| Boot in verbose mode, that way you can see what device the system is crashing on. || AMD Athlon64 3800+ Venice | Asus A8N5X s939 | OCZ Premier PC3200 Du-Ch 1GB | Sapphire X1600Pro 512MB PCI-e | 1xWD 80Gb & 1xWD 250Gb Sata(s) | Antec SLK3800B Case | Enermax NoiseTaker 485W || |

| If it doesn't boot I'm not going through a long confusing way I don't even understand to start with route to get this thing to run. I'm about to give up at this point. I've made a total of 4 cd-r and 1 dvd and they all do the same thing. I really wanted to try this out since it is highly recommended as an easier to use/install linux distro, but the damn thing wont even boot to be able to try or install.
