Default Ubuntu Problems

Ok so I got a new hard drive and I installed Windows XP on it so that I could install Ubuntu 7. Ubuntu says that after I put in the cd it should automatically run but it isn't. I have the .iso on the cd, that is the only file on the cd and it won't recognize it. What should I do?

Memory: 510MB RAM
Video Card: RADEON X600 256MB HyperMemory
HDD: 160 GB
Case: Stock
Power Supply: Dell
Cooling: 4 Fans
Operating System: Windows XP SP2

Ubuntu is a LiveCD which means you have to run it outside XP. Put the CD in and restart the computer, make sure you go into the BIOS and set the CD/DVD drive to boot before the HDD. You should then be able to boot from the Ubuntu LiveCD and install Ubuntu from there.

Ok, tried that and when it asks me to boot from cd I do that and it says it does not recognize the device :( I hate computers lol. But is there something else I need on the cd or will it work with only the .iso?

All you need is the ISO. Maybe try burning another disc, and if that doesn't work... well... we'll go from there.

I believe I found the error but I am not sure. The iso was burned as a regular file, I will reburn it with instant cd as an iso file. Maybe that will make it work.

alright, you probably have a bad copy of Ubuntu i would suggest using Torrent such as Utorrent program and download it using torrent sharing, the usage of torrent makes it easier to download and it also checks the copy... if that dont work, order the cd directly form Ubuntu website, if only your not rushing to do your linux adventure...

Yes, and I believe if you order it from Ubuntu it's free? (No shipping charges either.)

You need to burn a bootable CD from the .ISO file. This should help:

Correct, it's completely free. Shipping times are fairly reasonable too.
